Page 2 of 2 THE ABOLITION OF THE PUNISHMENT OF WHIPPING ACT, 1996 ACT No. VII OF 1996 An Act to abolish and restrict the punishment of whipping WHEREAS it is expedient to abolish the punishment of whipping except in cases where such punishment is awarded as hadd and for matters connected therewith and incidental thereto ; It is hereby enacted as follows:— Short title, extent and commencement.—(1) This Act may be called the Abolition of the Punishment of Whipping Act, 1996. (2) It extends to the whole of Pakistan. (3) It shall come into force at once. Definition.—In this Act, unless there is anything repugnant in the subject or context, the expression “had” means the punishment of crimes laid down in the Holy Quran and Sunnah.
